Unknown gunmen have kidnapped Princess Mojisola Omosowon, the regent of Akungba Akoko township in Ondo state, According to a  palace source
The source, who claimed to be a palace errand broke the news to Saharareporters correspondent in Akure on Wednesday morning and said the regent was kidnapped along Owo-Akure road.
The palace source further disclosed that Princess Omosowon was abducted on her way to attend the inaugural lecture of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) in Akure, the Ondo state capital.

“The regent was kidnapped on her way to FUTA in Akure, where she was officially invited to attend the inaugural lecture of the university. The gunmen wore mask and ordered her to enter into a waiting vehicle. They shot into the air to scare away travelers on the road. The kidnap was well coordinated”, the palace source told Saharareporters.
Our correspondent learned that the lecture was to be delivered by Vice-Chancellor of the Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA) Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun who was already on his to Akure when in the incident occurred.
A driver with the AAUA who was driving the vehicle that took the regent when the kidnappers struck was also abducted.
Another source on condition of anonymity said he suspected that the abduction had a political undertone. He said the regent attained that position by the support of Hon. Abiodun Ogunbi, a member of the Ondo State House of Assembly representing Akoko South West local government, to which Akungba belong. He said further that the people of Akungba did not like the Regent and the kidnppers must have taken the advantage of Hon. Abiodun Ogunbi's challenge of the just concluded elections at the election tribunal to mean he had a lot of money to spend. Hence, the kidnappers may request a ransom hoping that the relationship between the regent and the honourable will compel him to cough out some juicy sum.
As at the time of filing this report some aggrieved youths in the Akungba Akoko are staging violent protests and making bonfires to express their displeasure at the incident.
The community youths armed with sticks were also reportedly attacking tertiary institution students of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko accusing them of being the brain behind the kidnap.
They have also blocked the major road leading to the town chanting solidarity songs and hurling curses on the students as policemen wre seen rushing to the scene to quell the rioting.
