Turaki, who spoke while making his contribution to the debate on the report of the conference Committee on Religion at the plenary on Tuesday, warned that Northern Nigeria is at the brinks of collapse and ruin solely on account of religious extremism, militancy, fanaticism and bigotry.

"Celibacy is not a dogma," he said in answer to a question about whether the Catholic Church could some day allow priests to marry as they can in some other Christian Churches.

Nigeria's government and military have been sharply criticised for their response to the mass abduction on April 14 and were finally forced to accept foreign help, including from the United States, in the rescue effort. 'Embrace Dialiogue', Lagos State Govt Tells Striking LASU ASUU

The Lagos State Government has described the strike embarked on by lecturers of the Lagos State University (LASU) as an unnecessary drawback for its spirited efforts to boost the academic standing and reputation of the institution.
The government therefore appealed to the striking lecturers to embrace dialogue instead of continuing with their industrial action.
In a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Lateef Ibirogba, said the striking members of the LASU branch of the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) appeared to be whipping up sentiments to justify a premeditated industrial action, as all the points they advanced could not even be properly classified as trade disputes that could warrant an “Indefinite Strike Action.”

CHIBOK: Nigeria’s Army Hampers Hunt for Abducted School Girls

Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Kenneth Minimah

Intelligence agents from all over the globe have poured into this city, Nigeria’s capital, to help find the nearly 300 Nigerian schoolgirls abducted by the Islamist extremist group Boko Haram more than a month ago, but there has been little or no progress in bringing the young women home.
The problem, many involved in the rescue effort say, is the failings of the Nigerian military.
There is a view among diplomats here and with their governments at home that the military is so poorly trained and armed, and so riddled with corruption, that not only is it incapable of finding the girls, it is also losing the broader fight against Boko Haram. The group has effective control of much of the North-East of the country, as troops withdraw from vulnerable targets to avoid a fight and stay out of the group’s way, even as the militants slaughter civilians.

CONSPIRACY: President Jonathan Says There Are Plans To Bring Down His Govt.

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday said those behind the violence in the country were planning to bring down his government.
Jonathan, at the 2014 Democracy Day Interdenominational Church Service with the theme “Love The Lord…and your Neighbour” in Abuja, described them as evil forces.
Terror attacks by Boko Haram in some parts of the North, especially the North-East, have led to the death of thousands of people. On April 14, 2014, the sect abducted more than 200 girls from a government college in Chibok, Borno State, a development that brought global attention to the terrorist activities in the country.
