'Controversial' Penalty Sends Cote D'Ivoire Out of Brazil 2014 World Cup

FULL TIME GREECE 2 IVORY COAST 1
Remarkable finish. Greece might not be an attractive side but they have won me over. They just would not give it up. They defended like tigers, they were dangerous on the break and they hit the woodwork a couple of times. Their fierce shooting from distance was notably impressive. Kalou was so selfish on the break at 1-1 and the Ivorians has paid for his selfishness now.

A 90th minute Georgios Samaras penalty has sent Greece through to the last-16 of this world cup against all odds as Ivory Coast ended their campaign crestfallen. It had looked for all the world that Didier Drogba, Yaya Toure and co were heading into the knockout stages when Wilfried Bony cancelled out Andreas Samaris' first have opener. But Samaras had a controversial fall in the box with all accusing fingers pointing at substitute Giovanni Sio in stoppage time and Samaras coolly slotted home.

The first half was a bit stop-start but you cannot fault the entertainment in the second. Another belting match. Nice moment of sportsmanship from Samaras at the end as he goes over to comfort the distraught Ivory Coast keeper Barry. bit of a Flintoff-Lee job.
