'BORN AGAIN' SUPER STARS

The sports scene is replete with lots of frustrations, scandals, immorality, drug abuse, sex scandal and other vices. However, a few of these stars have been open about their love for God.

Ricardo KAKA

The Brazilian and AC Milan superstar is one of the rare generation of players from an affluent background. He is known to be a God fearing player and has never been associated with any scandal unlike most players of his generation. His attachment to Jesus is not unconnected to his miraculous recovery to a career-threatening accident he suffered at the age of 18, which was possibly paralysis-inducing spinal fracture as a result of a swimming pool accident. He attributes his recovery to God and has since tithed his income to his church.

His catch phrase "I belong to Jesus" has become popular around the world whenever he celebrates goals for both country and club. He has dispelled the notion that footballers cannot serve God because of their fame, fortune and talent.

For a player who grew up in Ajegunle, football offered an escape route from a world of crime and poverty. But while he was active in his career, he lived like most footballers.

However, the talented footballer later found solace in Christ. He later founded a church in Milan where he ministers to prostitutes, orphans and the homeless. Today he seeks to win souls for Christ and also offers counselling to footballers.

George FOREMAN

At the height of his boxing career, he was one of the most fearsome pugilists of his generation. His rivalry with Muhammed Ali provided some of the finest moments for boxing. He won the world boxing title twice and the Olympic gold medal. He is rated as the 9th greatest boxer of the last 80 years.

Today, the American is a full time preacher after being ordained a Baptist Minister. He pastors a church in the Boston area. He has become a reference point for all sports men and women even in retirement as a minister, entrepreneur and motivational speaker.
