Real Madrid Defender, Raphael Varane |
Raphael Varane has urged people to stop comparing the current Real Madrid team with Pep Guardiola's all-conquering Barcelona side, explaining that Carlo Ancelotti's men are determined to make their own history.
The reigning European champions have been likened to the successful Blaugrana team that won 14 trophies between 2008 and 2012 on account of their free-flowing attacking football, but Varane has stressed that the Santiago Bernabeu side are not looking to copy their Catalan rivals.
"Are the current Madrid team similar to Barcelona under Guardiola? There's no need to make comparisons," Varane told Marca.
"We want to write our own history and we're not going to compare ourselves with anyone. We want to make history with this team. We're not looking at anyone else.
"Real Madrid are in a great place right now because we have a solid defence and are very strong in attack. Let's hope it lasts, but I think we can improve even more in some areas and that's positive - we've been playing well but we can do better.
"We have the quality to keep the ball and play on the counter, we're trying to juggle those two facets of the game."
