Obviously not unconnected to the bomb blast tragedy that occurred in Abuja yesterday, this BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) bus pilot conducted a search on every passenger that entered into the bus (perhaps acting on instruction) at the Iyana-Ipaja BRT bus stop. He began ransacking every bag carried by the passengers and this unusual act became ridiculous to most of the passengers. A passenger said the pilot should get a scanner and that it was wrong for him to probe into people's bags.
Exhibiting a sense of humour, a guy said to the pilot, " you are searching our bags so that when you see money you can inform armed robbers to attack". This obviously did not go down well with the pilot who immediately replied the passenger with a slap. Yes, a slap!
Obviously perplexed, the passenger asked why what right the pilot had to slap him and the pilot landed yet another one and another one on the passenger's cheek telling him he had every right to do so because he dared to call him an armed robber.
The man sitting beside the passenger, who happened to be his elder cousin (so he claimed), stood up for him and told his 'dented' cousin not to retaliate. He introduced himself to the pilot as a police officer just in time when he suspected that he too could receive his own dose of the slaps for defending the passenger who had accused him of armed robbery.
Sure, that introduction was a deterrent and he only could employ verbal defense against the 'policeman'. while they were arguing, the policeman's cousin who had been receiving the slaps interfered again and yet .... yes, you guessed right; another slap! This time around though, the guy could manage a feeble jab on the face of the pilot because people were already trying to calm the situation.
The policeman threatened to deal with the pilot when they arrive at their destination at Ikeja under bridge. He made some calls and was asking for deployment of some boys to wait for him the the Ikeja terminal bus stop (Under Bridge) but on getting there were no boys around. Oops...may be the calls were just fake after all. Hmm... may be he was no policeman after all. For it not to look like he was merely bragging, the two guys tried to make a scene again with the pilot. The pilot was obviously ready for them as well and as they threatened they walked away stylishly and then disappeared from the scene. This act was clearly to cover their shame of helplessness. This is Lagos and you know u no go wan carry last. Lol. Lagos na wa!
