Dangote Rekindles Interest In Buying Arsenal

Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote tried and failed to acquire a stake in 2010 but claims he has a "strategy" for investing in the Gunners.

Africa's richest man, Aliko Dangote, has said he still wants to buy Arsenal despite failing in a 2010 bid to acquire a stake in the club.

The Nigerian billionaire is now worth nearly eight times as much as when he tried to buy into the Gunners, and the passionate Gooners has not given up on his dream of getting involved with the north London club.

“I still hope, one day at the right price, that I’ll buy the team,” Dangote, 58, told Bloomberg.

“I might buy it, not at a ridiculous price but a price that the owners won’t want to resist," he continued, before ominously adding, "I know my strategy.

MINISTERIAL LIST: Buhari Drops Governors Fashola, Fayemi

According to an exclusive report by Nigerian Voice, All is not well with the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party’s rank and file seems in disarray following the alleged dropping of the names of Lagos governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) and former Ekiti State governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi from the ministerial list of President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). According to our investigation, both men who are supposed to be candidates of the national leader of the party Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu may not be enjoying the support of the Jagaban of Borgu kingdom that is expected to press for their inclusion. 

National Weekender learnt that their names were initially pencilled down on the list still being worked on before final vetting by the party’s national leadership but on advice of a very powerful chieftain in the South West, the names of the duo were erased. This development has irked the trio of governors Chibuike Amaechi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Rochas Okorocha and Adams Oshiohmole of Rivers, Kano, Imo and Edo States respectively. The governors in a show of solidarity for the duo who belongs to their constituency (Governors Forum even as Fayemi is no longer in office) felt slighted that they were not carried along in the decision to drop both men who had worked tirelessly to actualize the victory of the party in the 2015 General Elections.

BOKO HARAM: Rescued Women From Sambisa Forest Narrate Ordeal

Survivors of Boko Haram captivity have revealed how the militant group’s fighters stoned some of their captives to death as the military approached to rescue the victims in Sambisa Forest.

Quoting survivors, Associated Press reported that several women also died when they were crushed mistakenly by a Nigerian military armoured vehicle. Three, it reported, were blown up by a landmine, as they were walking to freedom.

These tragic stories came from girls and women brought to a refugee camp, the news agency reported, and the victims are still finding it hard to believe they are safe.

“We just have to give praise to God that we are alive, those of us who have survived”, said Lami Musa, 27, as she cradled her five-day-old baby girl.

Boko Haram: Lagos Insures Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, Other Infrastructures For N133bn

Although, Nigeria is currently winning the war against terror group Boko Haram and the activities of the militants seem to be dwindling but the Lagos State Government is taking no chances. It has insured the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, roads and other important state-owned infrastructures for N133 billion against terrorists attack and natural disasters.

“Strategic assets such as bridges, drainage channels and roads are now specifically insured against natural disasters and terrorist attacks, amongst others,” Commissioner for Finance, Ayo Gbeleyi said while speaking on the financial activities of the state government in the last one year.

“This action is for the benefit of the residents of Lagos State. This is under the special risk cover against disaster and terrorism. The premium is N247 million for the year and that insures an asset of about N133 billion of the state,” he added.

SALARY: Osun APC Blames PDP Misrule for 6 Months Non-Payment

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has urged the Nigerian Labour Congress and civil servants in the state to exercise patience over the current economic crisis in the state occasioned by non-payment of salary.

It will be recalled that several workers are owed salaries of up to six months in the state where more than 50 percent of workers are employed by the government.

According to the party, the incoming APC Federal Government has given assurances that it would look into the federal allocation to the states to reduce months of unpaid salaries, as soon as the new government is sworn in on May 29.
