APC Writes INEC; Wants Osun Gubernatorial Election Shifted If...

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to consider postponing the August 9 Osun State governorship election, if any voter would be disenfranchised.
It also reinforced its allegation that its members, supporters and sympathisers were being denied the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), which is mandatory for voting.
A statement by its spokesperson, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Wednesday in Abuja, asked the commission to either allow all registered voters to vote with either of PVCs or temporary voter cards or shift the poll for all outstanding PVCs to be issued.

Assassination: Buhari Narrates His Escape From Bomb Attack

General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), yesterday gave an account of what how he escaped death in a bomb attack apparently targeted at him in Kaduna.


Ina statement released abou six hours after the attack, the former military head of state said : “I was personally involved in a clearly targeted bomb attack today (yesterday) at about 2:30pm on my way to Daura.
“The unfortunate event, clearly an assassination attempt, came from a fast-moving vehicle that made many attempts to overtake my security car, but was blocked by escort vehicle. We reached the market area of Kawo where he took advantage of our slowing down and attempted to ram my car and instantly detonated the bomb which destroyed all the three cars in our convoy.

Executive Recklessness: Court Orders Amosun To Pay Monarch's Salaries

Ogun State High Court, sitting in Sagamu has ordered governor Ibikunle Amosun to pay the Alakene of Ikenne, Oba Adeyinka Onakade his 19 months salaries and allowances which the government has “illegally” withheld.
Oba Onakade who was installed by the immediate-past administration in May 2011 went to the Sagamu High Court to seek redress over the stoppage of his salary and allowance by the incumbent administration.

The remains of the late popular gospel singer, Kefee, were finally laid to rest in her home town, Okpara Inland of Ethiope East Local Government, Delta State on Friday, as so many people could not control their emotions.
Most of the mourners, dressed in black tee-shirts with Kefee’s picture printed on them, carried placards and posters of the late singer as they trooped to the burial site.

Nigeria’s population might hit 223.3 million by 2020, according to a projection by the National Population Commission (NPC). The commission also hinted that the population of those aged between 10 and 24 have reached 60.4 million going by its latest records.
Chairman of NPC, Chief Eze Duruiheoma, SAN, who made this known in an address on Friday to commemorate the 2014 World Population Day, in Akure, Ondo State, said the nation’s youth population was put at 44.4 million or 33.1 per cent of total population at the end of the 2006 Census exercise.

Ebola Resurfaces In west Africa


Fourty-four new cases of Ebola and 21 deaths have been reported in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea between July 6 and 8, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said.


This brought the total in West Africa’s first outbreak of the deadly disease to 888 cases, including 539 deaths since February. It is the largest and deadliest so far, the UN agency said.
“The epidemic trend in Liberia and Sierra Leone remains precarious with high numbers of new cases and deaths being reported,” the WHO said on Friday.

A 25-year-old man, Shamsu Isa has told a magistrate court in Kano State that mistake has no master as he said he impregnanted his elder sister in error.


Isa spoke yesterday, shortly after appearing before the court, following a report made by the Ward Head of the Takalmawa Quarters, to the police that the accused person was having s*xual intercourse with his elder sister, contrary to the law.

Redeemer’s University Student Reveals Why He Killed Father

The 21-year-old Tolani Ajayi, who killed his father, Charles Ajayi (SAN) last week has disclosed his reason for killing him.

Tolani, a 300-level student of History and International Relations, Redeemer’s University, Redemption Camp, along Lagos/Ibadan expressway, Ogun State, who is now being detained at Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta said he killed his father because he provoked him. He however expressed regret, asking his mother to forgive him. He said he had also asked God for forgiveness.
“I have sent some people to talk to her that I am sorry. I have talked to my sister. My mother is still grieving, I want to give her time. It may be spiritual, so I have asked God for forgiveness,” Tolani said.

David Luiz has apologised "to all Brazilians" for the humiliating 7-1 defeat to Germany in the World Cup semi-final in Belo Horizonte.

Brazil's dreams of winning the tournament as hosts were smashed as they slumped to an embarrassing defeat. Germany blew Luiz Felipe Scolari's men away as they took a 5-0 lead in the first half before sealing the emphatic 7-1 scoreline after the break.

David Luiz, who was named captain in the absence of the suspended Thiago Silva, could only offer an apology at full-time for an abject personal and collective performance.

"I just wanted to give some happiness to my people. To my people, who suffer so much already," Luiz toldRede Globo.

"Unfortunately we couldn't do it. I'm sorry, everyone. Sorry to all Brazilians. I wanted to see my people smiling.

Fifa suspends Nigerian Football Federation
The Fifa Emergency Committee has suspended the Nigerian Football Association (NFF) with immediate effect due to alleged "government interference".

The move comes after the dissolution of the NFF executive committee by the country's government and the detention of NFF president Aminu Maigari by the Department of the Dstate Security Service.

Soldiers Kill Boko Haram Kingpin, Brother In Early Morning Raid

Nigeria’s security forces have killed a suspected Boko Haram kingpin and his brother in an early morning raid on their hide-out in Kaduna State. Reports say soldiers traced the house of the suspect, identified as Usman, who had escaped from Borno, in Kinkinua GRA, Ungwan Mu’azu area of Kaduna metropolis Residents say the security operatives, comprising plain cloth personnel and armed soldiers, broke through the wall to gain access into the house, got his family out, and engaged him in a gun battle that reportedly lasted for about three hours before he was killed while trying to escape.

Chibok Abduction: 81 Days After Abduction, Seven Traumatised Parents Die


81 days after their children were abducted in the dead of the night by Boko Haram insurgents, seven parents of the abducted girls of the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, have reportedly died of trauma.


The National Chairman of Chibok community under the Kibaku Area Development Association, KADA, Dr. Pogu Bitrus, stated this yesterday at a news conference in Abuja.
He also said Chibok community had lost 229 people in 15 attacks by the Boko Haram sect.

BRT Vehicles Mayhem: We Are Not Responsible - Army

The Nigerian Army has denied the involvement of soldiers in the mayhem unleashed on BRT buses in the Obanikoro area of Lagos State. Instead, it blamed street urchins for taking advantage of the accident involving a soldier, who was allegedly knocked down by a BRT bus.

The army authorities, in a statement issued by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Abraham Ochagwuba, claimed that a BRT bus knocked down and killed a soldier – an army corporal – on Friday morning around Obanikoro.
The bus driver reportedly took the soldier’s body into the bus and attempted to drive away with it, but fled when other soldiers, who had witnessed the incident arrived at the scene.

Tinubu Losing Grip In South-West Politics – Agbaje


A Lagos-based lawyer and rights activist, Mr. Fred Agbaje, has said that the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is no longer a force to reckon with in the politics of the South-West geo-political zone.


Agbaje premised his argument on the loss of Ekiti State governorship election by the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
According to him, the era of taking voters for granted and imposing candidates on them had gone and that if care was not taken, the APC would also lose to the opposition in the states controlled by the party in the South-West.
